Experience Yarra Valley Explore More

Creating Magical Family Memories Together

As we head into the winter school holidays, the Yarra Valley has an abundance of experiences that can be enjoyed by ‘kids of all ages’. Whether you’re searching for some outdoor fun, a bit of culture or fabulous places to dine – we’ve curated our list of things to do and see together.  Burn off the energy levels as you get outdoors and sporty with the Eastern Golf Club’s ‘Golf and Tennis School Holiday Program – being held each Tuesday and Thursday of the Victorian School Holidays. The kids will discover golf and tennis on the one day with The Eastern Golf Club and GP Tennis teaming up during our winter school holiday program. They’ll enjoy an awesome day outdoors filled with fun activities and making new friends. It’s always a fun filled day and the kids will be out in the fresh air and being active.  Mum and Dad can enjoy a quiet lunch together as they relax in front of the fireplace in the Members’ Lounge & Bar.

Always a favourite, Healesville Sanctuary is open right throughout the school holidays.  Explore the Koala Forest or the World of the Platypus; wander the Woodlands Track or head into Dingo Country.  Healesville Sanctuary is zoo that specialises in Australian native animals and also features the Australian Wildlife Health Centre, a working veterinary hospital treating over 1500 orphaned, ill or injured wildlife every year. It’s a very special place that has been welcoming families for generations.

Dangling legs are back on the much-loved Puffing Billy – a favourite part of the 100+ year steam train experience.  Rug up and enjoy, as so many kids have done for many years, as you journey through the natural surrounds of the Dandenong Ranges.  The Lakeside Visitor Centre is located adjacent to Lakeside Station and visitors are able to take a step back in time as they journey through this historical interpretive zone – the Lakeside Hall – providing a glimpse into the early days of steam train travel.

The Yarra Valley, also known as Melbourne’s ‘food and wine playground’, features a number of wineries that are kid-friendly with rolling hills, playgrounds to climb or places to picnic whilst enjoying a bottle of wine purchased from the cellar door. Some of our favourite places to visit include De Bortoli; Coombes Yarra Valley; Rochford Wines and Yering Station.

Guests can also order one of our BBQ Hampers for dinner, with the option of a special Joey BBQ pack for the kids, and enjoy a cook up before heading inside to enjoy reliving the day’s adventures in front of your open fireplace.

When planning your day out exploring our beautiful backyard, please check the opening hours and always book ahead.

And, if you are just wanting to stop and enjoy fun ‘family’ time together, we’ve always enjoyed ‘kangaroo counting’ – a favourite pastime as you count kangaroos from the private deck of your cottage whilst our Eastern Grey’s – also known as our Directors of Entertainment – graze around you.
